Here’s What It Takes

Be at least 17 years old
Be able to read, speak and write English
Have a 3rd Class Medical Certificate
      Learn more about medical certificates
      Find an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner
      Fill out the required form online*
Complete 40 hours of airplane time including:
     • 20 hours of flight instruction with a CFI
     • 10 hours of solo flight time
Pass two tests:
     • Private Pilot FAA Written Test
     • Private Pilot FAA Checkride

*Some AME’s still prefer paper forms
 
 
 

 

Private Pilot’s License

The Private Pilot’s license allows you to fly planes of varying sizes wherever you like, day or night, as well as allowing you to take family and friends with you. This particular license will enable you to rent single-engine airplanes wherever they are available, join a flying club, or even purchase and fly your own personal plane. With all of it’s advantages, the Private Pilot’s License will open up a world of new flying opportunities for both business and pleasure.
